Sustainabil-IT were delighted to collaborate recently with Origina Ltd. on producing their interim sustainability report, in support of their commitment to the UN Global Compact, published this week.
About Origina:
Origina is an Irish technology success story, whose business model has successfully disrupted the OEM vendor lock-in model of costly support and mandatory upgrades, allowing organisations to manage their technical debt, focus on innovation not upgrades, significantly save money – and importantly avoid waste by extending the life of IT Assets. As a signatory to the “right to repair” movement and their commitment to sustainability in technology, and with offices in Ireland, the US, UK, Australia and France, Origina, led by founder Tomas O’Leary, has enjoyed exponential growth as its’ business model and service offerings winning Tier 1 customers globally and recognition from Gartner and Forrester for their innovative approach.
The Project:
Origina commissioned Sustainabil-IT to assist with the production of Origina’s inaugural sustainability report, with a mid-July deadline due to commitments to the UN Global Compact. While Origina had carried out an initial Ecovadis certification, achieving a highly creditable Bronze ranking, there was an opportunity to address high-priority recommendations from Ecovadis in the sustainability report, including carbon foot-printing, DEI metrics and alignment of Origina’s purpose and initiatives to UN SDGs. One of the challenges of the Origina “Regen” team was time. While the committee comprised of a highly-motivated team, they also were working full-time in their respective areas (Technology, Finance, HR, Marketing). To avoid creating an administrative burden, Sustainabil-IT carried out the carbon-footprinting with our partner technology, GreenTally.AI, a game-changer in the carbon foot-printing world. In short, any document (.csv file, AP list, invoices, utility bill, boarding card, travel ticket etc.) can be uploaded to the platform and the AI interprets the unstructured data into structured data and calculates its’ Scope, Category and carbon footprint, allowing the carbon footprinting exercise across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 to be completed in days instead of months.. The engagement was led by Sustainabil-IT’s Gita Shah, who brought her deep expertise and attention to detail to full effect, from her previous role as Chief Sustainability Officer of a NASDAQ-listed organisation.
Jonathan Grace, CISO, Origina and Chair of the Regen Team:
“The Regen team were delighted to collaborate with Sustainabil-IT on navigating this important step in our sustainability journey and producing our first sustainability report. This initiative helped us meet our commitments to the UN Global Compact and communicates clearly with customers and other stakeholders the importance of sustainability to Origina’s business model. The engagement has identified opportunities for us to further embed sustainability across our organisation, which will ultimately also benefit our customers”.
Mark Kane, CEO at Sustainabil-IT:
“We were especially pleased to have been selected to work with Origina on this engagement, as it was very much a meeting of minds and of shared values. Origina is committed to sustainability in technology and Sustainabil-IT is focused on accelerating sustainability through technology, to borrow a phrase from Casablanca this represents “the beginning of a beautiful friendship”. The engagement was led indefatigably by Gita Shah, who ensured that everything stayed on track for an immoveable deadline (UN Global Compact submission) and who brought multiple stakeholders together from across three companies, multiple disciplines and two time zones. With the tight timeline, the use of AI-powered carbon foot-printing from GreenTally.ai was a game changer, we are grateful to Ning Na and his elite team at GreenTally.
